| Pongala - A Women's Festival in Kerala, South India |

Every
year the Festival of Pongala takes place in Thiruvananthapuram
(Trivandrum), the capital city of Kerala.
More than a million women line the streets with their cooking
pots to make porridge, an offering to the goddess Bhagavati at Attukal
Temple. During Pongala day all the roads near the Attukal Temple in
Trivandrum are filled with women making special kinds of recipes with
rice, coconut, and jaggery. Pongala

in the festival for 2011. Accommodation
at Hotel Sea Breeze near Lighthouse Beach in Kovalam. En-suite
rooms. Ladies
will be assisted in the purchase of a traditional sari to wear for the
special day. They will be given a cooking pot with ingredients to cook
and are escorted to the festival by local ladies.
